[ZJ Temporary Job Site Inspection 893 South Delaware Street; Indianapolis, Indiana PROGRAM SCOPE This was an announced reciprocity inspection of decontamination and decommissioning activities that were being performed by Chase Environmental Group (Chase), a Kentucky licensee. The work was being performed at the Eli Lilly Company (Eli Lilly), an NRC licensee in Indianapolis, Indiana. Specifically, Chase was performing limited characterization of several laboratory rooms where licensed activities were performed by Eli Lilly in the the past. The primary nuclide of interest was Carbon-14, both fixed and removable. Contamination levels were up to 3 million dpm per unit area in some locations. No characterization or remediation requiring a Decommissioning Plan was performed under reciprocity. Chase dispatched two individuals to perform licensed operations under reciprocit Performance Observations The inspector interviewed Chase site personnel as well as Eli Lilly personnel and found that staff had adequate knowledge to ensure the safe handling of licensed material and to be in compliance with NRC requirements. The inspector toured the facility and observed Chase personnel performing radiological surveys consistent with proper radiation safety protocols and within NRC regulations. The inspector performed independent radiological assessment and did not find contamination or radiation fields above expected by either Chase or Eli Lilly. The inspector also performed side-by-side radiation survey comparisons and did not find any abnormal issues.
