UNITED STATES NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION CHARTER FOR THE ADVISORY COMMITTEE ON MEDICAL USES OF ISOTOPES

1. Committees Official Designation:

Advisory Committee on the Medical Uses of Isotopes

2. Authority Established Pursuant to Section 9 of Public Law 92-46342 United States Code §2201 as an NRC discretionary committee. Commented [CR1]: Changed from citing to the Federal Advisory Committee Act to the specific authority granted to the NRC under the Atomic Energy Act.
3. Committees objectives, scope of activities and duties are as follows:

The Committee provides advice, as requested by the Director, Division of Materials Safety, Security, States, and Tribal and Rulemaking Programs (MSSTR), Office of Nuclear Material Safety and Safeguards (NMSS), on policy and technical issues that arise in regulating the medical use of byproduct material for diagnosis and therapy. The Committee may provide consulting services as requested by the Director, MSSTR.

Director, Division of Materials Safety, Security, States, and Tribal and Rulemaking Programs Office of Nuclear Material Safety and Safeguards U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, DC 20555

5. Agency responsible for providing necessary support to this Committee:

U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission.

6. Estimated Annual Operating Costs and Staff Years Approximately 13 members utilize 2.1423 FTE (includes approximately 1.0339 FTE for NRC staff and 1.110.84 FTE for ACMUI member compensation and travel) and

$34874,000.

7. Designated Federal Officer:

A full time NRC employee from the Division of Materials Safety, Security, States, and Tribal and Rulemaking Programs will serve as the Designated Federal Officer.

8. Estimated number of meetings per year:

Five meetings per year, three of which are teleconferences.

Continuing Committee

10. The Committees termination date.

Continuing Committee subject to Charter renewal in March 201820.

11. Membership and Designation:

Members are appointed by the Director, NMSS as Special Government Employees. The membership includes health care professionals of diverse specialties who represent diagnostic and therapeutic applications of medicine, medical administration, and patient care advocacy.

12. Subcommittees:

The Committee does not have standing subcommittees; if ad hoc subcommittees are used, they would report to the full Committee.

13. Recordkeeping:

The Committee records will be handled in accordance with General Records Schedule 6.2 and approved NRC records disposition schedules. These records shall be available for public inspection and copying, subject to the Freedom of Information Act, 5 U.S.C.
