Letter from Elinor G. Adensam to J. P. McGaughy, dated May 22, 1984 In accordance with the NRC Order of May 22, 1984 (Reference),

Mississippi Power & Light Company (MP&L) has completed a disassembly and reinspection of the Unit 1 Division I standby diesel generator. The enclosed report details the reinspection program undertaken by MP&L.

The enclosed report also includes MP&L's comparison of the two Unit 1 standby diesel engines with regard to as-manufactured quality, maintenance history, inspection results, and operating history. MP&L's proposed, limited inspection activities for the Division II diesel engine are also discussed in the attached report.

As noted above, the required disassembly and reinspection of the Division I diesel engine has been completed.

Following reassembly, the j

vendor recommended post-inspection testing was successfully completed.

Currently the diesel generator is undergoing the preoperational testing required by the above referenced Commission Order, as clarified by the MP&L letter, AECM-84/0325, dated July 2, 1984. This preoperational testing is scheduled to be complete by July 7, 1984.
