By letter dated October 17, 1996, you requested a deviation from your
,                      commitment to meet the technical requirements of Section III.G.2 of Appendix R to Title 10 of the Code of Federal Reaulations, Part 50, to the extent that it specifies the separation of certain redundant safe shutdown circuits with fire-rated barriers. Alternatively, you propose to use fire-rated cables to replace portions of certain safe shutdown circuits at V.C. Summer Nuclear Station.
In order to complete our review and evaluation of this deviation request, we require additional information from you. Enclosed is our request for additional information. We are requesting a response within 45 days of the date of this letter.

: 1. Submit the Underwriters Laboratories Report on Fire Resistant Cables, File R10925-1, dated April 10, 1984.
: 2. Provide a comparison of the cables propos ' for installation in the plant and the cables tested in the UL fi test.
: 3. Describe conductor number, type, and size of Firezone R cables to be installed. Identify the loads to be powered by the cables and provide
,                the nominal voltage and current requireraents for each of these loads.
Describe how the UL fire test results are bounding for the intended                    l application of the Firezone R cables.                                                  i
: 4. Provide detailed drawings of the fire areas through which the fire-rated cables are routed. Clearly mark the route of the cables, and clearly
