By letters dated August 10, 1982 and December 23, 1982, Alabama Power Company requested that Unit 2 Technical Specification 3.4.7.2 concerning isolation valve leakage be modified from 1 gpm to 1 to 5 gpm with certain restrictions. By Amendment No. 20 to the Unit 2 Facility Operating License, the NRC granted temporary relief to the leakage criteria. The NRC Staff requested the results of initial and final leakage tests performed during the first refueling outage. This ~

information, which has been provided informally, is hereby provided as an attachment to this letter.

Design: 6",1500#, Forged, Bolted Cover, Swing Check ~

Class: ASME Class 1 Valve Identification #: 6C88 Valve was disassembled and inspected during weekend of October 30-31. A definite cause of failure to seat properly was not found. It is speculated that loose corrosion products may have prevented valve i-closure at the reduced pressure used for testing. The valve was lapped ,

, as a precaution and reinstalled. The valve successfully passed the official leakage test performed during startup.
