November 26, 2019 The Honorable John A. Barrasso Chairman, Committee on Environment and Public Works United States Senate Washington, DC 20510
Dear Mr. Chairman:
The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) is publishing the following document in the Federal Register:
Title:
Nuclear Power Plant License Fees Upon Commencing Commercial Operation
[Docket Nos. PRM-171-1; NRC-2019-0084; NRC-2017-0228].
- Description of the document: This document presents the NRCs decision regarding a petition for rulemaking related to when the NRC should begin assessing annual fees to new reactors. The petitioner believes that annual fees for a new reactor should not start when the acceptance criteria of a Combined Operating License (COL) is reached, but should start when the plant becomes commercially operable. The NRC will consider moving the start from when the acceptance criteria of a COL is reached to a later point, but not to when a plant reaches commercial operation.
For more information, see the enclosed document.
Please contact me at 301-415-1776 if you have questions or need more information.
Sincerely,
/RA/
Eugene Dacus, Director Office of Congressional Affairs
