VIRGIL C. SUMMER NUCLEAR STATION UNIT 1 DOCKET NO. 50-395 OPERATING LICENSE NO. NPF-12 SPECIAL REPORT (SPR) 2015-001 South Carolina Electric & Gas Company is submitting this report pursuant to the requirements of Technical Specification 3.3.3.10.a. The Loose-Part Monitoring System (LPMS) channel number 8 has been inoperable in excess of 30 days.
This channel was declared inoperable July 14, 2015, due to low background noise levels*
Channel 8 is a redundant channel to Channel 9, used to provide false alarm filtering.
Channel 9 can provide LPMS alarms independently. System function is not impacted, and the LPMS is operable. The sensor for this channel is located on the 'C' Steam Generator, inside the Reactor Building and is not accessible during power operation. Repairs will be completed during the next refueling outage (RF-22), which is scheduled for Fall 2015.
