The open house is informal and will begin at 6 p.m. at the Burton Business Building, Classroom 6, William Woods University, One University Ave., in Fulton. Members of the public will have an opportunity to meet informally with the NRC staff, ask questions and learn about the agencys role in ensuring safe plant operation.

The NRC continually reviews the performance of Callaway and the nations other commercial nuclear power facilities, NRC Region IV Administrator Elmo E. Collins said. This informal meeting will provide members of the public with an opportunity to learn about our annual assessment of safety performance at the plant.

Although the plant received heightened oversight during the first half of the year, a subsequent inspection determined that the appropriate corrective actions were implemented. The NRC said Callaway operated safely during 2010 and will receive the detailed inspection regime used by the NRC for plants that are operating well. Inspections are performed by two NRC Resident Inspectors assigned to the plant and by inspection specialists from the Region IV Office in Arlington, Texas.

A letter sent from the NRC Region IV office to plant officials addresses the performance of the plant during 2010. It is available on the NRC website at:
