Dave Gasperson, 404-997-4417 NRC Names New Resident Inspector at Catawba Nuclear Station Nuclear Regulatory Commission officials in Atlanta have named David Rivard as the agencys new resident inspector at the Catawba Nuclear Station in York, South Carolina. He joins NRC senior resident inspector Joe Austin at the plant, operated by Duke Energy.

Rivard joined the NRC in 2020 as a project engineer in the Division of Reactor Projects in the Region II office in Atlanta after working for more than 30 years in various nuclear engineering and compliance roles in the private sector. He also served in the U.S. Navy as a nuclear engineering officer aboard the USS Dallas.

We are pleased to have an inspector that brings three decades of experience in the field helping to oversee that Catawba Nuclear Station continues to meet the high standards set by the agency," said NRC Region II Administrator Laura Dudes.

Rivard holds a bachelor's degree in nuclear engineering from the University of Virginia, and a Master of Business Administration from Southern New Hampshire University.

Each U.S. commercial nuclear power plant has at least two resident inspectors. They serve as the agency's eyes and ears at the facility, conduct regular inspections, monitor plant operations and significant work projects, and interact with plant workers and the public.
