P. McKenna Meeting Summary On July 8, 2021, the NRC staff held a public information meeting with a question and answer session to discuss the late-filed allegation process for VEGP, Units 3 and 4.

The NRC staff discussed the need for a late-filed allegation process, the Commissions policy for reviewing allegations, and the agencys confidentiality policy in protecting the identify of allegers. The staff also illustrated this process through an example scenario (ADAMS Accession No. ML21182A230).

SNC staff described how the licensee would respond to late-filed allegations (ADAMS Accession No. ML21183A108).

At the conclusion of the discussion, a member of the public asked what date the late-filed allegation process would begin. The NRC staff responded that no specific date has been set and the timeframe for entering this process would be established by the staff based on when a potential Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations (10 CFR) 52.103(g) finding would be made. Currently, the NRC staff is using its normal allegation process since the time period for late-filed allegations has not started. The NRC staff is unable to confirm or deny any specific allegations it has received, but the agency does make allegation statistics publicly available on its website at https://www.nrc.gov/about-nrc/regulatory/allegations/statistics.html. The NRC staff added that the late-filed allegation process is completely internal to the NRC so members of the public would not see any difference in how allegations are processed regardless of which process the NRC is using.
