REGULATORY INFORMATION CONFERENCE 2021 SOLICITATION FOR CREATIVE MEMBERS TO SERVE ON THE TECHNICAL REVIEW AND PLANNING COMMITTEES We are pleased to announce that planning has begun for the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commissions (NRCs) 32nd Regulatory Information Conference (RIC), which will take place during the week of March 8, 2021. We all can agree that we are in unprecedented times; however, this challenge is an opportunity to showcase the creativity and resourcefulness of the NRC and how the staff continues to successfully implement the mission and values of the agency. As we continue to evolve in our new environment, we have big news! We are taking the 2021 RIC virtual!

Although the 2020 RIC did not come to fruition, we had planned many enhancements to the program, including Commission-chaired sessions, use of the RIC application, and live polling.

We planned to introduce sessions and events that focused on the next generation of nuclear leaders and the Future is Now exhibit, as well as to continue the use of state-of-the-art technology such as tablets for electronic questions and answers. Building on the enthusiasm generated while preparing these initiatives for 2020, we are excited about the possibilities that a CONTACT: Lorna P. Kipfer, NRR/DRMA 301-415-4065

virtual RIC brings. We are already gaining insights from other organizations that have successfully transitioned from a physical meeting to a virtual meeting. We are capturing their best practices and building them into our virtual program planning. We intend to leverage elements of the technical program that were planned from last year and introduce features to further engage attendees on a virtual platform.

As co-sponsors of the RIC, the Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation and the Office of Nuclear Regulatory Research offer an opportunity to participate by designating a representative from your organization to serve on the RIC Technical Review Committee (TRC) and another to serve on the RIC Planning Committee (PC). In keeping with the premise described above, we seek members who demonstrate the ability to be unconventional, creative thinkers. The TRC and PC members will play an integral role in shaping the technical sessions, digital exhibits, and special events, as appropriate. The goal of these committees is to deliver a comprehensive program that is informative and interesting, and to deliver a top-notch and professional virtual RIC.

The TRC: Members are technical subject matter experts (Senior Executive Service status not required) who have broad knowledge or specific expertise in the areas of safety, security, or policy within the nuclear industry. Members will be responsible for evaluating all technical topic submissions, communicating constructive feedback on submission writeups, and shaping placement in the final session schedule, with a focus on delivering a dynamic virtual experience to the audience. Members will participate in approximately three to five meetings lasting 1 to 3 hours3.472222e-5 days
8.333333e-4 hours
4.960317e-6 weeks
1.1415e-6 months
each during the months of September through November 2020.

The PC: Members will serve in an administrative capacity, participate in monthly planning meetings, and be responsible for tracking assigned tasks and communicating important due dates and RIC-related information back to their respective office management. The members will bring their innovative ideas to help create and deliver a successful virtual RIC. Members will participate in approximately 8 to 10 1-hour meetings during the months of September 2020 through February 2021.

ACTION: To help shape the program content, we request one designee to serve as a TRC member and one designee to serve as a PC member, from each of your offices. Please identify these designees to the RIC Meeting Support Team (RICMST) by sending an e-mail to RICMST.Resource@nrc.gov by Wednesday, August 5, 2020.

We are excited to partner with you to plan and deliver the 2021 RIC and are confident that the first-ever virtual RIC will be a tremendous success!
