Dear Mr. Wood:

On December 17, 1997, the staff issued Generic Letter (GL) 97-05, " Steam Generator Tube Inspection Techniques," to the industry requesting that each addressee provide the following information:

(1) Whether it is licensee practfte-to leave steam generator tubes with indications in service based on sizing.

(2) If the response to (1) is affirmative, a written report should be submitted that includes, for each type of indication, a description of the associated nondestructive examination method being used and the technical basis for the acceptability of the technique used.

By letter dated March 16, 1998, you responded to this GL, which included a description and technical basis for.all inspection techniques used to size the depth of steam generator tube degradation at the Davis-Besse Nuclear Power Station. The staff has completed its review, and did not identify any concerns with the steam generator tube inspection techniques employed at Davis-Besse that would indicate that you were not in compliance with the current licensing basis for the facility.

This completes the effort on TAC Number MA0461. Please contact me if you have any questions regarding this matter.
