Subject:

- LaSalle County Station Units 1 and 2 Radiologically Posted Area (RPA) Ingress / Egress NRC Docket Numbers 50-373 and 50-374 l

Reference:

R. E. Querio letter to J. Lieberman, Dated June 17,1994, Transmitting Response to Notice of Violation and Proposed imposition of Civil Penalty from Inspection Report Numbers 50-373(374)/94004 1

In Attachment C of the referenced response, one of the measures implemented to improve control of radioactive materials was:

"The Radiologically Posted Area (RPA) has been redefined and '

ingress and egress limited from six to two points during outages and t

one during non-outage periods."

i The station has decided to eliminate the Main Control Room from the RPA I and to adjust the boundary of the RPA accordingly. Removing the Control Room from the RPA creates the need for additional RPA ingress / egress points above those specified above. .

This change upgrades the station operator work environment and is one of the measures being taken to provide physical improvements to support standards of professionalism. Improvements in release equipment technology utilization, such as the Small Articles Monitor (SAM), and worker accountability minimize the probability that radioactive materials will be improperly released. Additional measures being taken include semi-annual detailed site surveys of non-RPA areas and upgrading of the routine monthly

n;n-RPA survey program.
