Dear Mr. Taylor:

In the referenced letter, Mr. Leusink reported a series of crackecl welds discovered in some generators manufactured by Louis Allis for Long Island Lighting Company, Shoreham Nuclear Plant. The welds occurred in the conical baffle section of the coil guards.

Corrective action with respect to the Shoreham Plant is being implemented. However, in the referenced letter, Louis Allis recom-mended that an additional four units be inspected for similar problems. After some additional reflection, we believe it would be prudent to inspect all sixteen additional units built with the came configuration. While there is no basis for serious concern, the ease of inspection would make a full review seem appropriate and will remove any shadow of doubt. With that in mind, therefore, the following units should be inspected:
