SALEM AND HOPE CREEK GENERATING STATIONS ARTIFICIAL ISLAND SECURITY PIAN TEMPORARY PROTECTED AREA MODIFICATION i DOCKET NOS. 50-272, 50-311, 50-354 As' described to Mr. Keinig and members of the Safeguards Section staff on August 21, 1990, Public' Service Electric & Gas Company (PSE&G) will construct a new warehouse' facility within the Artificial Island protected area. To complete this major task with minimal effect upon the Nuclear Security Program, PSE&G is notifying the NRC in accordance with 10 CFR 50.54 (p) of its intent to temporarily modify the protected area to permit-construction outside the protected area. This arrangement will provide several security benefits and construction program savings. Security benefits include maintenance.of security measures equivalent to those described in the-Artificial Island ,

Security Plan, reduced personnel, vehicle and material searches  !

and processing, avoidance of construction interferences with lighting and CCTV surveillance,.and very limited compensatory posting and personnel-escorting.

Attachment i depicts'the proposed location of the' warehouse and temporary protected area perimeter relative to the currently approved site configuration. Attachment 2 describes the security measures which will be.in force for the duration of the project.

When the project is completed, the protected area will be configured in a new permanent layout, also' depicted in Attachment

1. A Security Plan revision describing the physical protection features associated with the warehouse and a drawing showing the revised site layout will~be submitted under the provisions of 10 CFR 50.54 (p).
