SUMMARY

OF ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION PROGRAM--

RESPECTING CONSTRUCTION OF GRAND GULF NUCLEAR STATION (GGNS) UNIT 2 FOR SIX MONTHS ENDING JUNE 30. 1990 Construction Highlights Unit 2 construction was suspended in' September 1985 with approximately 35% of field construction completed based on-the ,

estimated manhours needed to complete the Unit. Minimal Unit 2 activities were for the purpose of long term equipment and 4 strJctural maintenance.

V9.hicular Movement

- No "off limit" violations were observed during the reporting. period.

M t Control No dust control violations were observed during the reporting period.

Smoke Control No smoke violations occurred.during the reporting period.

The GGNS Burn Pit, which was officially closed on February 22, 1990,

.was filled with dirt during the week of June 11, 1990 thus prohibiting any future use.

Erosion Control Rainfall was recorded on 45 occasions during the reporting period, I with an accumulated total of 35.96 inches.

l Chemical & Solid Waste Control

.No violations or improprieties of Mississippi waste disposal' regulations occurred during the reporting period.

Noise Control l

No excessive noise levels were detected during the reporting period.

l l Sediment Basins A &_Q There were no construction-associated problems with Sediment Basins.

Regional Groundwater Wells The twelve regional groundwater wells were read 13 times during the reporting period with no problems encountered.

Vegetation Survev No vegetational abnormalities were observed during the reporting period.

Transmission Lines Transmission line surveys were suspended in 1988 based on the stabilization of soil and vegetation observed along these lines during-previous surveys.
