SUBJECT:

Arkansas No.: lear One - Units 1 and 2 Docket Nos. 50-313/50-368 License Nos. DPR-51 and NPF-6 Clarification to Inspection Report 50-313/90-04; 50-368/90-04 Gentlemen:

The subject inspection report discussed the inspector's review of an event 1 l in which low-level contaminated liquid waste from the ANO sanitary sewage  !

treatment facility was transferred to the Russellville Municipal Sewage Treatment System. The inspection rep rt included a description of corrective actions taken in response to this event. As discussed on July 1 l 5, 1990, with Mr. Blaine Murray of the NRC Region IV staff by Messrs. Bill McKelvy, Rick King, and Ms. Julie Jacks of the ANO staff, some of these l corrective actions have changed since the time the inspection was i performed. i i

The source of the contamination was suspected to be_certain waste water from Unit One. Once this source was isoiated from the sewage treatment facility, measurable activity was not detected in the ANO sanitary sewage -

samples. Therefore, the weekly surveillance sampling and daily composite samples were determined to be no longer necessary. Surveillance sampling is now being performed on a monthly basis. Samples are being taken and analyzed prior to loading and releasing each load to the Russellville

~

Municipal Sewage System. This action will prevent recurrence of the event.
