UNITED STATES NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION WASHINGTON, D.C. 20555-0001 January 4, 2019

Dear Colleagues:

We are pleased to invite you to the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commissions (NRCs) 31st Annual Regulatory Information Conference (RIC) to be held from March 12-14, 2019, at the Bethesda North Marriott Hotel and Conference Center in Rockville, MD. The RIC is one of the premier regulatory conferences in the world and the largest hosted by the NRC. Proudly co-sponsored by the Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation and the Office of Nuclear Regulatory Research, the RIC brings together nearly 3,000 participants from over 30 countries.

The RIC offers participants an inviting atmosphere that promotes open dialogue to share valuable information about emerging issues in the regulation of nuclear power plants and nuclear safety research, as well as in the areas of security and the nuclear fuel cycle. The RIC is a dynamic forum where domestic and international industry leaders can exchange ideas and experiences on matters related to nuclear safety and regulation.

This year, we have a wide-ranging program that promises to provide conference attendees with a wealth of relevant information. The opening session will feature remarks by Chairman Kristine L. Svinicki and Executive Director for Operations Margaret M. Doane, as well as plenary sessions with Commissioners Jeff Baran, Steven G. Burns, Annie Caputo, and David A. Wright.

The NRC is evaluating its regulatory approaches, mindset, and culture in an effort to become more innovative in the implementation of its safety and security missions. Through informative technical sessions and stimulating panel discussions, the RIC technical program will underscore the agencys readiness to face new challenges and will include sessions on topics such as advanced reactors, risk-informed decision-making, accident tolerant fuels, fuel cycle issues, the regulatory impact of advances in digital technology, and regulatory research.

Session presenters will be subject matter experts from across the agency, industry, academia, other government agencies, international regulatory bodies, and other stakeholder groups. RIC participants will be able to explore other topics of interest by visiting the e-posters and digital presentations on display, and by taking advantage of tours being offered by the NRCs Operations Center at NRC Headquarters.

Please make plans to attend this event. You will benefit from the opportunity to interact with colleagues and gain valuable insights, opinions, and information on nuclear regulatory activities.

Online registration opens in early January 2019. For up-to-date conference and registration information, please visit the RICs Web site, and follow us on Twitter (@NRCgov_RIC).

2 We look forward to seeing you in March.

Sincerely,

/RA/

Ho K. Nieh, Director Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation
