UNITED STATES NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION WASHINGTON, D.C. 20555-0001 December 13, 2018 Mr. Kevin Cimorelli Site Vice President Susquehanna Nuclear, LLC 769 Salem Boulevard Berwick, PA 18603

SUBJECT:

REQUEST FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION REGARDING SUSQUEHANNA NUCLEAR, LLCS DECOMMISSIONING FUNDING PLAN UPDATE FOR SUSQUEHANNA STEAM ELECTRIC STATION INDEPENDENT SPENT FUEL STORAGE INSTALLATION

Dear Mr. Cimorelli:

By letter dated December 16, 2015, Susquehanna Nuclear, LLCs (Susquehanna) and Allegheny Electric Cooperative, Inc.s (Allegheny) submitted for U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff review and approval, a decommissioning funding plan update (DFP Update) for the independent spent fuel storage installation (ISFSI) at Susquehanna Steam Electric Station (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) Accession Nos. ML15350A071 and ML16032A339). The NRC staff reviewed Susquehannas and Alleghenys DFP update for the ISFSI and believes Susquehannas and Alleghenys submittal is not sufficient to meet the intent of the requirement in Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations (10 CFR) 72.30(c). The DFP update does not provide sufficient information to allow the NRC to determine that the events listed in 10 CFR 72.30(c)(1)-(4) have been specifically considered.

The NRC staff need the information identified in the enclosure to this letter. We request that you provide this information within forty-five (45) working days of the date of this letter. Inform us at your earliest convenience, but no later than 2 weeks prior to the due date, if you are not able to provide the information by that date. To assist us in re-scheduling your review, you should include a new proposed submittal date and the reasons for the delay. Discussion of the request for additional information (RAI) and RAI response due date occurred on December 12, 2018. The conversation record and e-mail exchange are available in ADAMS (Accession Nos.

ML18347A272 and ML18347A328, respectively).

K. Cimorelli The staff is available to clarify these questions, and if necessary to meet and discuss your proposed responses. If you have any questions regarding this matter, please contact me by e-mail at pamela.longmire@nrc.gov.

Sincerely,

/RA/

Pamela Longmire, Ph.D.
