UNITED STATES NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION WASHINGTON, D.C. 20555-0001 April 3, 2018 Mr. Mark E. Tursa Trojan ISFSI Manager Portland General Electric Company 71760 Columbia River Hwy Rainier, Oregon 97048

SUBJECT:

REQUEST FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION REGARDING PORTLAND GENERAL ELECTRIC COMPANYS DECOMMISSIONING FUNDING PLAN UPDATE FOR TROJAN INDEPENDENT SPENT FUEL STORAGE INSTALLATION

Dear Mr. Tursa:

By letter dated December 10, 2015, Portland General Electric Company (PGE) submitted for U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff review and approval, a decommissioning funding plan update (DFP Update) for the independent spent fuel storage installation (ISFSI) at Trojan Nuclear Generating Station (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System Accession No. ML15349A939). The NRC staff reviewed PGEs DFP update for the ISFSI and believes PGEs submittal was not sufficient to meet the intent of the requirement in Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations (10 CFR) 72.30(c). The DFP update does not provide sufficient information to allow the NRC to determine that the events listed in 10 CFR 72.30(c)(1)-(4) have been specifically considered.

The NRC staff need the information identified in the enclosure to this letter. We request that you provide this information within forty-five (45) working day of the date of this letter. Inform us at your earliest convenience, but no later than 2 weeks prior to the due date, if you are not able to provide the information by that date. To assist us in re-scheduling your review, you should include a new proposed submittal date and the reasons for the delay. Discussion of the request for additional information (RAI) and RAI response date occurred March 7, 2018.

M. Tursa The staff is available to clarify these questions, and if necessary to meet and discuss your proposed responses. If you have any questions regarding this matter, please contact me by e-mail at pamela.longmire@nrc.gov.

Sincerely,
