OF SEPTEMBER 28, 2017, PUBLIC MEETING WITH TENNESSEE VALLEY AUTHORITY REGARDING HYDROLOGY-RELATED LICENSING ACTIONS - BROWNS FERRY NUCLEAR PLANT, UNITS 1, 2, AND 3; SEQUOYAH NUCLEAR PLANT, UNITS 1 AND 2; AND WATTS BAR NUCLEAR PLANT, UNITS 1 AND 2 (EPID L2016-TOP-0011; CAC NOS. MF8391, MF8392, MF8393, MF8394, MF8395, MF8396 AND MF8397)

On September 28, 2017, a public meeting was held between the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) and representatives of Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) in Rockville, MD.

The purpose of this meeting was for the NRC staff to present to TVA the status of the safety review of TVA's topical report TVA-NPG-AWA16, "TVA Overall Basin Probable Maximum Precipitation and Local Intense Precipitation Analysis, Calculation CDQ0000002016000041,"

Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) Accession No. ML16264A454. The meeting notice and agenda, dated September 12, 2017, are available in ADAMS at Accession No. ML17271A060.

Using the presentation slides (see ADAMS Accession No. ML17271A016, the NRC staff summarized the status of the safety review and the following three key concerns identified:

  • Dew point Selection
  • Tropical Storm Transposition
  • Orographic Transposition Factor Application TVA acknowledged that the staff's concerns were understood and will develop a proposed resolution for the NRC staff to review at a later date. A list of attendees is enclosed.

No regulatory decisions were made at the meeting. No Public Meeting Feedback was received.
