Subject: NRC Inspection Report No. 50-146/88-01 A routine, unannounced inspection was conducted on April 27-29, and May 3, 1988, of radiation protection activities associated with the Saxton Nuclear Experimental Corporation The inspector reviewed the status of site decontamination and final (SNEC). survey activities and also reviewed SNEC records maintained at the THI E0F in Harrisburg, PA. The NRR Project Manager also participated in the site visit. An exit meeting was conducted on May 3, 1988 at the THI E0F in Harrisbur Within the scope of the above review, one apparent violation was identified and is discussed in enclosure Appendix A. You are required to respond to this violation by following the instructions included in Appendix A. Several deficiencies were also noted which indicate a lack of appropriate management planning and oversight relative to site decontamination and final survey activitie We are scheduling a management n.eeting to be held on a mutually agreeable date at the NRC Region 1 Office in King of Prussia, PA. The purpose of this meeting is to discuss the management deficiencies identified during the subject inspection and also to discuss your action plan to characterize site contamination levels as discussed in section 7.0 of the enclosed Inspection Report.
