Event Description | On June 16, 2021, at 1550 EDT, Palisades Nuclear Plant was operating in Mode 1 at 100% power. At that time, operations identified an acrid odor in the control room. Investigation revealed that the steam dump control relay had failed, rendering all four atmospheric steam dump valves inoperable.
The loss of function of all four atmospheric steam dump valves is reportable in accordance with 10 CFR 50.72(b)(3)(v)(D) as an event or condition that at the time of discovery could have prevented the fulfillment of the safety function of structures or systems that are needed to mitigate the consequences of an accident.
