| Title | Offsite Notification Due to Fatality of a Contract Employee |
| Event Description | On April 29, 2011, at approximately 1100 hours0.0127 days <br />0.306 hours <br />0.00182 weeks <br />4.1855e-4 months <br />, a contract employee was found unresponsive in a vehicle, off the road, inside the Perry Nuclear Power Plant owner controlled area. At 1120 hours0.013 days <br />0.311 hours <br />0.00185 weeks <br />4.2616e-4 months <br />, it was confirmed by the Perry Fire Department that the individual was deceased. Notification has been made to the Lake County Sheriffs department and the Lake County Coroner. The death does not appear to be work related or the result of an accident. A preliminary diagnosis by the coroner is the individual suffered a heart attack. The Lake County Coroner is conducting a routine investigation into the death.
A press release is not planned at this time. The individuals name has not yet been released pending notification of next-of-kin. A notification to OSHA per 29CFR1904.39 will be made for this event. The plant is currently in MODE 5 (Refuel) for a refueling outage. This event is being reported in accordance with 10 CFR 50.72(b)(2)(xi) as an event or situation, related to the health and safety of the public or on-site personnel, for which notification to other government agencies has been or will be made. Such an event may include an on-site fatality. The NRC Senior Resident Inspector has been notified. |
