Christopher Nolan (Duke Energy) to NRC Document Control Desk, "Response to NRC Regulatory Issue Summary 2016-09 Preparation and Scheduling of Operator Licensing Examinations," dated July 14, 2016 At the request of the NRC, Duke Energy Progress, LLC (Duke Energy), is providing updated Operator Licensing Examination Data for Calendar Year (CY) 2017 and 2018 for the Brunswick Steam Electric Station (BSEP), Unit Nos. 1 and 2. The CY 2017 numbers were last updated by Duke Energy on May 20, 2015, by a response (i.e., Reference 1) to Regulatory Issue Summary (RIS) 2015-05. The CY 2018 numbers were last updated by Duke Energy on July 14, 2016, by a response (i.e., Reference 2) to RIS 2016-09. The responses provided proposed numbers (i.e.,

CY 2017 Old and CY 2018 Old) for Reactor Operators, Senior Reactor Operator - Instant, Senior Reactor Operator - Upgrade, and Senior Reactor Operators - Limited, that would be taking exams during CY 2017 and CY 2018.

This letter serves to update the CY 2017 and CY 2018 numbers (i.e., CY 2017 New and CY 2018 New) to aid the NRC in planning the necessary resources to support these exams.

These updates have increased the class sizes by three and four for the CY 2017 and CY 2018 exams, respectively. See the Table on the following page for the totals.

The changes in class sizes were made to accommodate personnel attrition, along with trying to avoid the need for overlapping initial license classes.
