Nuclear Regulatory Commission officials in Atlanta have selected Coleman Curran as the agencys new resident inspector at the Brunswick nuclear power plant in Southport, North Carolina. He joins NRC Senior Resident Inspector Galen Smith at the two -unit Brunswick site, operated by Duke Energy.

Curran joined the NRC in August 2020 as a project engineer in the Resident Inspector Development Program in the NRC s Region II office in Atlanta. He completed the Resident Inspector Development Program earlier this year and supported the agency s inspections at the Hatch nuclear power plant in Baxley, Georgia.

Curran holds a bachelor s degree in nuclear engineering from the University of Tennessee.

Before joining the NRC, he completed internships at the VR-1 training reactor at the Czech Technical University in Prague and with the aerospace and defense industry.

The NRC assigns at least two resident inspectors to each operating U.S. commercial nuclear power plant. They serve as the agency s eyes and ears at the facility, conducting regular inspections, monitoring plant operations, major work projects and interacting with plant workers and the public.
