[External_Sender] Don't renew operating license

Xcel Energy is seeking the approval of a Site-Specific Environmental Impact Statement. Monticellos current operating license expires September 8, 2030. The nuclear plant will then be 60 years old.

This extension seeks to increase its operating license from 60 to 80 years. Monticellos design is a General Electric Mark I Boiling Water Reactor (BWR), identical to the Japanese reactors that melted down after the March 11, 2011 earthquake and tsunami knocked out all electrical power to keep the reactor cores cool.

To Whom It May Concern:

Expressing my opposition to renewing the operating license for an additional 20 years.

We all watched in shock and horror as the identical reactors (to Monticello) at Fukushima, melted down 13 years ago, and have continued to be a planetary focus of concern as contaminated water exceeded the capacity of storage. Releasing those waters into the Pacific Ocean cannot be regarded as a solution just an expedient, which has brought wrath upon Japan from neighboring countries like South Korea and the Republic of China.

Extending Monticello can only be assumed to be a gamble and if the gamble is lost, the consequences for the region and for the United States, are incalculable.

We now have the opportunity to replace Monticello power with renewables, and then clean up and eliminate the threat that these reactors pose both in Minnesota, and elsewhere.

Lets not be trapped in the 21st Century to perpetuating the shortcomings of the 20th!
