November 20, 2008 Mr. Terry J. Garrett Vice President, Engineering Wolf Creek Nuclear Operating Corporation P.O. Box 411 Burlington, KS 66839

SUBJECT:

ISSUANCE OF RENEWED FACILITY OPERATING LICENSE NO. NPF-42 FOR THE WOLF CREEK GENERATING STATION, UNIT 1

Dear Mr. Garrett:

The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) has issued the renewed facility operating license No. NPF-42 for the Wolf Creek Generating Station (WCGS). NRC issued the renewed facility operating license based on the staff's review of your application dated September 27, 2006, as supplemented by letters you submitted to the NRC through August 1, 2008. Our review did not result in an amendment of the technical specifications for WCGS. contains the renewed facility operating license No. NPF-42 with four attachments:

(1) Appendix A, Technical Specifications; (2) Appendix B, Environmental Protection Plan; (3)

Appendix C, Antitrust Conditions; and (4) Appendix D, Additional Conditions.

Renewed facility operating license No. NPF-42 expires at midnight March 11, 2045.

The technical basis for issuing the renewed license is set forth in NUREG-1915, Safety Evaluation Report Related to the License Renewal of the Wolf Creek Generating Station, published in October 2008. The results of the environmental reviews related to the issuance of the renewed license are found in NUREG-1437, Supplement 32, Generic Environmental Impact Statement for License Renewal of Nuclear Plants Regarding Wolf Creek Generating Station, published on May 8, 2008.

T. Garrett Enclosure 2 is a copy of the related Federal Register notice of issuance of the renewed license.

The staff has sent the original to the Office of the Federal Register for publication.

Sincerely,

/RA by Emmanuel Sayoc for/
