Community Letters Per our discussion and the packet we send yesterday, we want to reiterate the Senator's request that the NRC reach out to those communities (and any others that have written the NRC) to provide them with an update on the status of San Onofre based on NRC's latest information.

The Senator also asked that NRC keep them abreast of developments as you move forward with addressing Edison's forthcoming response to the confirmatory action letter and NRC's decision regarding restart.

Please let Grant and me know when the NRC has responded to those groups and if the NRC has any questions.

Best, Terry

RE: SAN ONOFRE NUCLEAR GENERATING STATION: OVERSIGHT ISSUES

Dear Chairman Joczko:

I share the same safety and equipment concerns raised by Senator Barbara Boxer, in her February 8, 2012 letter to you regarding the San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station (SONGs).

My State Senate district, which includes the City of San Diego is approximately fifty miles away from the SONGs power plant: "San Diego Gas-andEle~tric (SDG&E), the power company that serves my district and most of San Diego Count)y receives almost twenty percent of its electricity from this nuclear facility.

Since the shutdown of the power plant, there have been differing reports as to the cause of the leak and the integrity of the steam tubes being used. Some news outlets have reported comments made by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission's (NRC) spokesperson, Victor Dricks, about steam generator tubes at the plant showing "many, many years" of wear. Is his statement conclusive of an NRC investigation? If it is, what oversight action is the NRC taking to ensure that these problems are corrected and the power plant resumes operation.

Additionally, SONGs reported the same: w 'ek,: an incident from January where a contracted employee fell into the spent fuel rod cooling pool. This incident is just one among many safety violations at the facility over the past 2 years. What action is the NRC taking to address SONGs continued safety violations?.

The safety of the public and the reliability of this important plant providing power to the grid requires immediate attention.

Thank you for considering my questions, I look forward to your official response.

Sincerely, C 4 STINEK<EHOE '
