FNP-PAL-056 Offshore Power Systems September 26, 1979 Mr. Rob:et L. Baer, Chief Light Water Reactors Branch No. 2 Divisio,. of Project Management U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Comission 7920 Norfolk Avenue Bethesda, Maryland 20852 Re: Docket No. STN 50-437: Steam Gertrator Enclosure Analyses

Dear Mr. Baer:

In a recent telephone conversation between Mr. P. Hearn (NRC) .

and Mr. R. A. Bruce (OPS), Offshore Power Systems was requested to s; ify the nodalization scheme to be used for detailed analyses of the pressure transient in a steam generator enclosure following a steam line rupture in the enclosure. In lieu of specifying details of the anlytical model at this time, it was agreed that Offshore Power Systems could commit to use a model already accepted by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.

We have reviewed the nodalization scheme used for analysis of the McGuire Nuclear Station. On the basis of our review, we agree to use the McGuire nodalization scheme or a more detailed model as may be deemed appropriate after further discussion with the NRC at the time the analyses are to be performed.

The analytical model and results will be described in the Plant Design Report during the final design approval phase subsequent to initial issuance of the Manufacturing License.
