STATE OF NEW YORK PUBLIC SERVICE CCMS.ISSION May 18, 1979 STAFF'S QUESTIONS REGARDING THE COST OF COAL (SECTION S.2, VOLUME 4 CF PARTS III AND IV)

1. . Provide the cost of coal to include the base period cost and the basis for the rate of escalation.

2. Provide the cost of coal transport to include the base period ccet and the basis for the rate of escalation.

3. If the same escalation rate was used for the cost of coal and the cost of coal transportation, explain the basis for this assumption.

4. Explain why the delivered cost of coal to the New Haven and Stuyvesant sites be the same.

5. Explain the procurement plan for the coal to be used to indicate whether the cost is expected to be purchased en a long-term centract frem a single source er frem a number of scurces, if a new mine would be develcped to provide coal, if coal is expected to be purchased for a number c' spct and contract sources, etc.
