%me EDISON Docket No. 50-346 License No. NPF-3 Log No. KA88-0275 NP-39-88-01 Serial No. 1-805 May 26, 1988 Mr. A. Bert Davis, Regional Administrator U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Region III 799 Roosevelt Road Glen Ellyn, Illinois 60317

Subject:

Special Report of Inoperable Diesel Fire Pump Due to Maintenance Gentlemen On April 19, 1988 at 0319 hours0.00369 days
0.0886 hours
5.274471e-4 weeks
1.213795e-4 months
with the plant in Mode 6 at 0 percent power the Diesel Fire Pump was removed from service for maintenance and declared inoperable. This maintenance was performed according to Maintenance Vork Orders 3-88-1366-01 and 3-88-1378-01. This caused a deliberate entry into Technical Specification Action Statement 3.7.9.1.a which requires the equipment to be returned to service within seven (7) days. The maintenance took longer than expected due to an unanticipated failure of a temperature switch during post maintenance testing which had to be repaired prior to declaring the Diesel Fire Pump operable. The maintenance was completed and the Diesel Fire Pump was returned to service on April 26, 1988 at 1803 hours0.0209 days
0.501 hours
0.00298 weeks
6.860415e-4 months
. This special report is being filed pursuant to Technical Specification 6.9.2 due to the Diesel Fire Pump being inoperable for more than seven (7) days.

During the time that the Diesel Fire Pump was unavailable, the Electric Fire Pump vas fully operable. Additionally, the local fire department could have been utilized if conditions had warranted. Therefore, this condition did not have any potential safety significance.
