SUBJECT:

WOLF CREEK GENERATING STATION ASSESSMENT FOLLOW

-UP LETTER

Dear Mr. Heflin:

As a result of its continuous review of plant performance, the NRC has updated its assessment of Wolf Creek Generating Station.

The NRC's evaluation consisted of two supplemental inspection s pursuant to Inspection Procedure 95001, "Supplemental Inspection for One or Two White Inputs in a Strategic Performance Area."

This letter informs you of the NRC's assessment results. On January 7, 201 5, the NRC issued Inspection Report 05000482/2014505 (ML15007A298) which informed you of the inspection results from the supplemental inspection associated with a White finding in the Emergency Preparedness Cornerstone. The finding involved a failure to maintain adequate methods for assessing the potential consequences of a radiological emergency condition in accordance with the requirements of Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations (10 CFR) 50.47(b)(9), "Emergency Plan." This violation was previously documented in NRC Inspection Report 05000482/2014503, dated July 1, 2014 (ML14182A628).

Based on the results of this inspection, the White finding was closed.

On January 15, 2015, the NRC issued Inspection Report 05000482/2014406 (ML15015A701), which informed you of the inspection results from the supplemental inspection associated with a Greater

-Than-Green finding in the Security Cornerstone

. This violation was previously documented in NRC Inspection Report 05000482/2013403, dated March 6, 2014 (ML14069A025). Based on the results of this inspection, the Greater-T han-Green finding was closed.

Wolf Creek Generating Station has been in the Regulatory Response Column beginning the fourth quarter of 2013 for the Greater-Than-Green finding in the Security Cornerstone (Follow

-up Assessment letter, dated March 26, 2014, ML14085A376).

Since four calendar quarters have passed since each of these findings was entered into the Action Matrix, both findings will no longer be considered in the Action Matrix. Therefore, overall station performance is considered to be in the Licensee Response Column of the Reactor Oversight Process Action Matrix. Therefore, the NRC plans to conduct baseline inspections at your facility.

In accordance with 10 CFR 2.390 of the NRC's "Rules of Practice," a copy of this letter, its enclosure, and your response, if you choose to provide one, will be made available electronically for public inspection in the NRC Public Document Room or from the NRC's document system (ADAMS), accessible from the NRC Web site at http://www.nrc.gov/reading

-rm/adams.html. To the extent possible, your response should not include any personal privacy or proprietary, information so that it can be made available to the Public without redaction.
