Docket No. 50-285 Gentlemen:

\

The Omaha Public Power District received the Commission's letter of September 18, 1979, requesting that the District submit a design description and supporting information conforming to the staff posi-tion entitled " Safe Shutdown Capability". The District replied with a letter dated October 12, 1979, which provided a design description relative to achieving a hot shutdown from locations remote from the control room, as described in the Commission's SER for fire protection, supporting Amendment No. h0 to Fort Calhoun Station Operating License No. DPR 40. Our letter also indicated that a design description, providing alternate shutdown provisions to achieve a cold shutdown, was forthcoming. Accordingly, the referenced design description is attached.

Sincerely,
