D.C. COOK UNIT 2 FORCED SHUTDOWN FOR GREATER THAN 72 HOURS TO REPAIR REACTOR COOLANT PUMP SEAL (UPDATE)
 
DESCRIPTION:
 
On August 8, 2009, the Cook Nuclear Plant Unit 2 resumed operation after a maintenance outage that was started on July 26, 2009, to replace a degraded Reactor Coolant Pump Seal. The reactor was made critical at 2:05 a.m. (CDT) on August 8, 2009, and the main generator was synchronized to the grid at 10:17 a.m. (CDT) on August 8, 2009. The license replaced one Reactor Coolant Pump Seal during this outage.
 
The resident inspectors observed the licensee returning the plant to operation.
The State of Michigan will be notified. The information in this preliminary notification has been reviewed with licensee management.
