| In the opening remarks, Shana Helton, Director of DFM, stated that the staff would like an efficient review and timely closure of UMAX Amendment No. 3 review. As stated in the March 31, 2023, RAI letter, if Holtec could not provide adequate responses within a reasonable time, the staff will terminate the review because it could not make a safety finding. Shana Helton also noted that we need to hold both the NRC and the applicant accountable in the licensing process. | | During the public portion of the meeting, Holtec stated that the clarification call on April 11, 2023 (ML23125A115), was helpful to understand the staffs concerns. For structural analysis, Holtec had used the same methodology previously used for the UMAX system. Holtec recognized that Amendment No. 3 contains some unique features that are not in the UMAX system and planned to provide additional information in the response. For the criticality RAIs, Holtec planned to analyze the canister and basket under wet condition using publicly available information. |
