NATURE OF DEFICIENCY: Tranammarica DeLaval, Inc., shipped two diesel engines en the CP(nL site om Purchase Order NT-435079 in May and. June 1981.

SCOPE 0F PROBLEMr The deficiency involves the two diesel engines shipped.
on Purchase Order NT-435079. These engines have defective valve springs installed.
S_AFETY DfPLICATION: The diesel engine-generator sets supply power to the 2S7 buses in case of a loss of both the normal on site and off-site power sources.

The improper shot-peenintr of the valve spring could lead to failure of the spring. If the valve spring i fails, engine availability could be affected.
REASON DEFICIENCY IS REPORTABLE: If left uncorrected, failure o: che valve. spring could result in loss of the emergency on-site AC power supply.
CORRECTIVE ACTION: The A4===1 an=4n=a have been placed on " hold" at the Shearon Harris site The valve springs will be replaced when the enginer are installed' on their foundations.
Valve spring change-out requirea the ability to bar the engina over whica canact be-accomplished' until the engine is sitting on its foundation with the flywheel installed.
