- {; j lj 't' P1 30 gd c2V6-oo o Mr. James P.-O'Reilly, Director U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Office of Inspection and Enforcement Region II 101 Marietta Street, Suite 3100 Atlanta, Georgia 30303
Dear Mr. O'Reilly:
PART 21 REPORT FOR MATERIAL DEFECT AT BR0k".;S FERRY NUCLEAR PLANT On June 4,1980, it was discovered that a new replacement part for the high-pressure coolant inj ection - (HPCI) system at Browns Ferry Nuclear Plant. contained a manufacturing defect. Due to a machining error, the i HPCI mechanical overspeed trip valve body would not allow sufficient oil pressure .to develop within the valve body. If undetected, the defect would have caused HPCI to remain in a tripped condition. This defect has been detemined to be reportable under Part 21.
The enclosed Part 21 report contains further information about the
. problem and associated corrective action.
Very truly yours, TENNESSEE VALLEY AUTHCRITY
