Viktoria Mitlyng, 630-829-9662 Prema Chandrathil, 630-829-9663 NRC Names New Resident Inspector at Fermi Nuclear Power Station The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission has selected Thomas Taylor as the new resident inspector at the Fermi nuclear power plant. The single-unit plant is located in Newport, Mich., 25 miles northeast of Toledo, Ohio.

Taylor joined the NRC as a reactor engineer in Region III in 2007. He has served as a resident inspector at the Palisades and D.C. Cook nuclear power plants. Before joining the NRC, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and received a bachelors degree in chemistry from the U.S. Naval Academy. He then served on the USS Kentucky as a nuclear submarine officer. He also earned a masters of engineering management degree from Old Dominion University.

Each commercial nuclear power plant site in the United States has at least two resident inspectors who monitor day-to-day operations. Taylor joins NRC senior resident inspector Tom Briley at the Fermi facility. They will serve as the agencys eyes and ears at the facility, conducting inspections and monitoring significant work projects.
