Most recently, Jones was acting resident inspector at the Byron nuclear power plant located near Byron, Ill. He joined the NRC in Region III as a reactor engineer in 2006.

Prior to joining the agency, Jones served more than nine years in the Navy. He was a Lieutenant Commander assigned to the Naval Nuclear Power School. Jones graduated from the State University of New York with a bachelors of science degree in engineering and received a master of business administration degree from the University of Central Florida.

Robert Jones is an experienced inspector with a firm commitment to safety. He will help the NRC fulfill its mission of protecting people and the environment by helping ensure the Fermi plant operates at the high standards set by the NRC, Region III Administrator Mark Satorius said.

Each U.S. commercial nuclear plant site has at least two NRC resident inspectors. They serve as the agencys eyes and ears at the facility, conducting inspections, monitoring major work projects and interacting with plant workers and the public. Jones joins Senior Resident Inspector Mike Morris at the plant. Both can be reached at (734) 586-2798.
