No. II-12-019 April 12, 2012 CONTACT: Roger Hannah (404) 997-4417 E-mail: OPA2@nrc.gov Joey Ledford (404) 997-4416 NRC SCHEDULES MEETING IN RICHLAND TO DISCUSS AREVA FUEL FACILITY The Nuclear Regulatory Commission staff has scheduled a public meeting in Richland, Wash., on Tuesday, April 24 to discuss results of the agencys most recent review of AREVA NP, Inc.s fuel manufacturing facility located in Richland.
The meeting is scheduled to begin at 1:30 PDT in Conference Room A of the Richland Public Library, 955 Northgate Drive in Richland. The NRC staff will discuss with company officials the results of the agencys review of safety performance at the plant from Aug. 14, 2010 to Dec. 31, 2011. The discussion will include the areas of safety operations, radiological controls, facility support and special topics.
In its review, the NRC found no areas needing improvement so the agency will continue the normal level of inspection required for a facility of this type. In addition, the NRC plans additional inspection in the transportation area as a result of previous events.
The meeting will be open to the public and media, and NRC officials will be available to answer questions after the business portion of the meeting.
