SECRET SERVICE OFFICIAL TO HEAD NRC OFFICE OF INVESTIGATIONS James M. Taylor, Executive Director for Operations of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, has announced the appointment of Guy P. Caputo, Deputy Director of the Secret Service, to be Director of the NRC's Office of Investigations.

Mr. Caputo, who will assume his post on January 9, will be responsible for directing the conduct of investigations of NRC licensees, license applicants and their contractors and vendors.

Before becoming Deputy Director of the Secret Service in 1990, Mr. Caputo was Assistant Director of the Office of Protective Operations with responsibility for overall planning and implementation of protective security programs.

He began his career as a Special Agent in the New York Field Office in 1969.

He since has served in a variety of assignments, both in the field and at headquarters.

In Washington headquarters, he has planned, developed and implemented programs involving both the Secret Service's protective and investigative missions.

Mr. Caputo, a native of New York City, earned a bachelor of business administration degree in marketing from Iona College in 1969 and during 25 years in law enforcement has completed additional course work in the fields of management, administration and police work.

He has received numerous awards from the Department of Treasury for distinguished career achievements.

He is a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police, the National Executive Institute, the Southeastern Pennsylvania Chiefs of Police and the Pennsylvania Chiefs of Police.

Mr. Caputo is married and has three children and one grandchild.
