No: 19-032 July 10, 2019 CONTACT: Ivonne Couret, 301-415-8200 NRC Appoints David Petti to Four-Year ACRS Term The Nuclear Regulatory Commission has appointed David A. Petti, Ph.D., to the Advisory Committee on Reactor Safeguards for a four-year term.

The ACRS, a group of highly experienced technical experts, advises the Commission, independently from the NRC staff, on safety issues related to the licensing and operation of nuclear power plants, health physics and radiation protection.

In addition to his ACRS membership responsibilities, Petti works as a laboratory fellow and chief scientist for The Nuclear Science and Technology Directorate and as director of the Nuclear Fuels and Materials Division at Idaho National Laboratory. He also has a joint appointment as an executive director for the Massachusetts Institute of Technologys study on The Future of Nuclear Energy in a Carbon-Constrained World.

Petti has over 30 years of experience in technology leadership and as principal investigator of nuclear science and engineering materials-related technologies. His work included numerous lead and chief scientist positions at the U.S. Department of Energy, Idaho National Engineering Laboratory, University of Idaho and the Phebus Facility at the Cadarache Nuclear Site in France.

Petti has published two book chapters and has peer reviewed numerous journal articles. He is a recipient of many awards, including the Lifetime Achievement Award for an Idaho National Laboratory Publisher.
