NRC AUTHORIZES TRANSFER OF AEROTEST RESEARCH REACTOR LICENSE The Nuclear Regulatory Commission has issued an Order to Aerotest Operations, current operator of the Aerotest research reactor in San Ramon, Calif., authorizing the company to transfer the reactors operating license to X-Ray Industries of Troy, Mich.

Aerotest Operations and X-Ray Industries submitted their license transfer request on Jan. 19, and supplemented the application on Feb. 2, March 23, April 1, and April 19. Under the proposed transaction, X-Ray Industries would obtain Aerotest Operations from its current owner, Autoliv. This sale would indirectly transfer the research reactors license, with no effect on the reactor=s facilities, equipment, operating procedures, operating organization and personnel.

The Order, which appeared in the Federal Register (http://edocket.access.gpo.gov/2010/pdf/2010-16998.pdf ), includes provisions to ensure proper decommissioning funding for the facility. Under the Order, Autoliv and X-Ray Industries have until Sept. 13 to complete the sale, otherwise the Order will expire and the license transfer will be void. The Aerotest reactor, which the NRC first licensed in 1965, performs neutron radiography and provides training in that discipline.
