Idaho State University December 20, 2021 ATTN: Documents Control Desk Director, Office of Nuclear Material Safety and Safeguards U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, DC 20555-0001 RE: Idaho State University-Special Nuclear Materials License Number 1373, Amendment Request to Update University Officers Roster Docket Number (70-1374)

Dear Mr. Siurano-Perez:

I am writing to request an update to the university officers' roster for SNM License Number 1373.

(This change is also relevant to the reactor license, Facility License R-110, Docket No. 50-284, thus, Mr. Xiaosong Yin is copied on this letter.)

The updates include the elimination of an Assistant Reactor Administrator and the replacing Mr.

John Longley as Radiation Safety Officer (retirement) with Mr. Mason Jaussi.

First, we have eliminated the Assistant Reactor Administrator both due to the retirement of Dr.

George Imel, who held this title, and due to the expanded experience of our current Reactor Administrator, Dr. Mary Lou Dunzik-Gougar. Since taking the role of Reactor Administrator, Dr.

Dunzik-Gougar has been licensed as both a Reactor Operator and Senior Reactor Operator and knows the reactor well.

Second, we are replacing Mr. John Longley as the Radiation Safety Officer (retirement) with Mr.

Mason Jaussi. As outlined in Amendment 7 of our license, the minimum qualifications for the Reactor Safety Officer are as follows:

  • BS (or higher degree) in health physics, nuclear engineering, or closely related field, and five years of experience related to health physics/radiation protection OR
  • Certification by the American Academy of Health Physics or nominally equivalent relevant certification As indicated in the attached curriculum vitae, Mr. Mason Jaussi exceeds these minimum qualifications: A,D2D
  • Mr. Jaussi holds a Master of Science in Health Physics and has approximately six years of professional experience in health physics and radiation protection; five of which are with
jpolp Idaho State University's radiation protection program.

These requested changes are reflected in the attached "Roster of University Officials and Nuclear Personnel Responsible for Materials License SNM-1373, Docket No. 70-1374." (Both a clean version and one that shows the changes are attached.)

If you have any additional questions, please contact me via email at lybedonn@isu.edu Sincerely,

~~
