REVIEW SCHEDULE FOR THE REVIEW OF THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF ENERGYS 2020 SAVANNAH RIVER SITE SALTSTONE DISPOSAL FACILITY PERFORMANCE ASSESSMENT
Dear Mr. Comeau:
The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff is providing the schedule for its review of the 2020 U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Savannah River Site (SRS) Saltstone Disposal Facility (SDF) Performance Assessment (PA). By letter dated October 5, 2020, the NRC sent a Preliminary Review Letter (see the NRCs Agencywide Documents Access and Management System [ADAMS] Accession No. ML20254A003) to the DOE. The Enclosure to that NRC Letter provided the NRC staff Request for Supplemental Information (RSI) Comments. That NRC Letter included: Due to the need for the supplemental information about the SDF and uncertainty when the DOE will provide the supplemental information to the NRC, the NRC will not provide a review schedule at this time. After receiving the supplemental information, the NRC will develop a project schedule for the review and provide the schedule to the DOE and South Carolina.
The DOE provided four Responses to the NRC RSI Comments on November 18, 2020, March 30, 2021, June 8, 2021, and August 3, 2021 (ADAMS Accession Nos. ML21159A059, ML21089A119, ML21160A059, and ML21217A076). Following the direction in that NRC Preliminary Review Letter, now that the DOE has provided all the Responses to the NRC RSI Comments, and now that the NRC staff has reviewed those DOE Responses, the NRC is providing the following Review Schedule for the 2020 DOE SRS SDF PA to the DOE:
