COMPLETE SEVERENCE OF SERVICE WATER PIPE TO THE "A" DIESEL GENERATOR At 7 :30 p.m. , on July 22, 1975, after completion of the loss of offsite power test, with the diesels shutdown, the six inch cast carbon steel service water line severed. Two thousand gallons per minute of saltwater flooded the "A" Diesel Room to one foot depth. Several components includ-ing diesel control panel, fuel pumps, and air cotopressor ' vere flooded. ,__

or its support systems was observed, but its operability is being checked.

The cause of the pipe f ailure is being investigated.

Media interest is not expected. The State of Connecticut has been informed.

A press release is not planned.

OIE (Region I) received notification of this occurrence by telephone from Mr. Kenyon at 8:00 a.m. on July 23, 1975.
