1 NARRATIVE

SUMMARY

Month: February, 1989 Catawba Unit 1 began the month of February off line for its End of Cycle 3 Refueling Outage. The unit returned to service at 1236 on 2/06, and was subsequently removed from service due to high vibration on the main Turbine.

The unit then returned to service at 0504 on 2/08, and was removed from service at 1326 the same day for a Turbine Overspeed Trip Test. The unit returned to service at 1519 on 2/08, and following a hold for moderator temperature coefficient, the Turbine tripped off line due to a High Moisture Separator Reheater level. The unit then returned to service at 0431 on 2/09, and following several startup related holds, as well as unplanned holds for Feedwater Control Valve problems, Generator Relay replacement, Feedwater Heater problems and Incore Nuclear Instrumentation Drive Assembly Motor problems, reached 100% power at 1730 on 2/13. The unit then operated at or near 100%

power, without further significant reductions, for the remainder of the month.
