Dear Judy:
Yoar letter and Kevin's letter addressed to President Johnson con-l-
cerning the nuclear reactor that the Pacific Gas & Electric _ Company wants to build at Bodega Head Nsent to the Atomic Energy Commission.
The le Atomic Energy u munission is responsibtitty for determining whether plants of this kind can be built 'and operated safely.
I have just written a letter to Kevin explaining how carefully we consider applications or requests for approval to build nuclear reactors.
We have not completed our study of the company's application and have not yet decided whether such a reactor at Bodega Head could be operated safely.
I am enclosing a set of pictures like those I seat to Kevin, in order that you may see what power reactors, which are presently operating to make electricity, look like.

The Atomic Energy Commission has many scientists and engineers who study the plans and drawings of reactors which V
companies like P. G, and E. would like to build. One of l
the matters which we are studying very carefully is the earth-quake history of Bodegh Bay and the possible effect that an earthquake might have on a reactor. We have not yet decided whether a reactor such as the one which P. G. 'and E. would e
like to build could be operated safely.
