Dear Dr. Newmark :

This refers to your letter of October 19,196k concerniug your work <m various reactor projects under Contract No.

AT(h9-5)2667. With regard to the Bodega Bay reactor it is not anticipated that any more work on the part of your firm vill be necessary on this case. In connection with the Malibu reactor it is not possible at this point to con-

= fidently predict the additional work on your part which may be required. However, it seems likely that the 10 days previously authorized by rny letter of September 3 may not be sufficient. Accordingly, the maximum number of days that your firm may devote to this project is increased from 10 to 20 days.

Sincerely yours ,

Onginal Signed by L G. Case Edson G. Case Assistant Director Division of Beactor Licensing k 2[h6851217 FIRESTOB5-665 PDR r

' Ibis nfers to your 1 tter 9 of October 19, 1964 concerning your work on various reactdk projects under Contract No. AT(h9-5)2667.

With regard to the Bodega Bay reactor it is not anticipated that any more work on the part of your firm vill be necessary on this cas e. In connection with the Halibu reactor it is not pocsible at this point to confidently predict the additionsi vork on your part which may be required. : However, it seems likely that the 10 days previoasly authorized by aty letter of September 3 may not be sufficient. Accordingly, the mar.imum number of days that your firm may devote to this project is increased from 10 to ,

l 20 days.

We believe that there is merit t'o your suggestion that consid-eration be given to authorization., of a study by your firm for l

the purpose of outlining in a definitive way general earthque.ke resistant design provisions for reactors. We vould like to be provided with a discussion of your Auggested method of approach, an outline of the scope of the proped study, and a preliminary estimate of the time and effort invoi d. For the purpose of this exploratory wort, your firm is a orized to spend five days on this phase of the proposed stu .
